How to Cancel Canva Pro: The Official Steps, and the Pause Option First
Most "cancel Canva" guides give one set of steps that works for maybe half of readers — because where you subscribed decides where you can cancel, and Canva cannot cancel an App Store subscription for you no matter how many times you ask. Here is the path for each case, plus the option that keeps your plan alive for three months at zero cost.
Short answer: open your profile menu → Settings → Billing → Cancel plan → Continue cancellation → pick a reason → Continue cancellation → Cancel subscription. That works only if you paid Canva directly. If the charge came from Google Play, the App Store, or WeChat/Alipay on the China version, you must cancel in that platform — and uninstalling the app cancels nothing. Cancelling also does not refund the period you already paid for; you keep access until it ends.
1. Before you cancel: the 3-month pause
This exists on Canva's own help page and almost no article mentions it. You can pause a Canva Pro, Canva Teams or Canva Business plan for up to three months. There are no charges while it is paused, and the plan resumes automatically — Canva sends an email reminder before it restarts.
If you are cancelling because work went quiet, because you are away, or because you are not sure yet, pausing is strictly better than cancelling: your plan, your settings and your place come back on their own, and a forgotten restart costs you one email rather than one rebuilt workspace.
| Pause | Cancel | |
|---|---|---|
| How long | Up to 3 months | Permanent for that plan |
| Charged during | No | No — but the current period is not refunded |
| What happens at the end | Resumes automatically, with an email reminder first | Stays on the free plan |
| Can you go back? | It comes back by itself | Yes for Pro, via Billing → "Stay on Canva Pro" while still active |
| Best for | A gap in usage | You have decided not to pay again |
One exception worth knowing before you choose: pausing is not available to everyone. Canva's page frames it as a Pro / Teams / Business option, and for Teams and Business only owners and administrators can cancel or pause. If you are a member of someone else's team, you cannot do either — you have to ask the owner.
2. Which subscription do you have?
This is the step people skip, and it is why the single-set-of-steps guides fail. Canva's own instruction is to check your billing email or bank statement and see who took the money.
| Who charged you | Where you cancel | Canva can do it for you? |
|---|---|---|
| Canva (invoice from Canva, subscribed in a browser) | Canva Settings → Billing | Yes — this is the only case where the Canva steps work |
| Google Play | Play Store → Payments & subscriptions | No |
| Apple App Store | Device Settings → Subscriptions | No |
| WeChat / Alipay (China version, canva.cn) | WeChat 支付设置 / Alipay 支付设置 | No — it is a payment-app setting, not a Canva setting |
3. Cancelling a Canva-managed plan
Log in first, and log in to the right account — Canva names this as the single most common reason a cancellation appears not to work. If you belong to more than one team, switch to the team that holds the subscription before you start. Then:
- On the homepage, select your account profile to open the menu.
- Choose Settings.
- Go to Billing.
- Under your plan, select Cancel plan.
- Select Continue cancellation.
- Choose the reason you are cancelling, then select Continue cancellation again.
- Optionally, tell Canva why in the free-text box.
- Select Cancel subscription.
You should receive a confirmation email. Treat that email as the proof the cancellation went through — if it never arrives, Canva's own troubleshooting advice is that the cancellation probably did not complete, and you should try again.
4. Cancelling a Google Play subscription
If the charge came from Google, Canva cannot stop it. Cancel inside Play Store:
- Open the Play Store app on your device.
- In the top corner, select your account icon.
- Check you are signed in with the right Google account — a Canva subscription that "disappeared" is almost always under a different Google login.
- Select Payments & subscriptions.
- Select Subscriptions.
- Select Canva, then Cancel Subscription.
- Confirm.
5. Cancelling an App Store subscription
Same rule: this lives in Apple's settings, not Canva's. Uninstalling the app does not cancel it — Canva states this explicitly in bold on their own page. On an iPhone or iPad:
- Open Settings.
- Tap your name at the top.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap Canva, then Cancel Subscription.
If you reach the Canva entry and there is no "Cancel Subscription" button, the subscription is already cancelled and will not renew. Apple's screen is the authority here, not Canva's.
6. The China version: WeChat and Alipay
If you subscribed through Canva 可画 (canva.cn), the subscription is a recurring payment inside a Chinese payment app, and Canva's international Billing page will not show a cancel option for it. Canva's China help page gives two paths:
| Paid via | Path |
|---|---|
| WeChat → 我 (Me) → 服务 (Services) → 钱包 (Wallet) → 支付设置 (Payment Settings) → 自动续费 (Auto-Renewal) → select Canva 可画 and turn it off | |
| Alipay | Alipay → search 支付设置 (Payment Settings) → 自动扣款服务 (Auto-Deduction Service) → select Canva 可画 → 取消服务 (Cancel Service) |
| Apple ID | Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Canva 可画 → Cancel Subscription |
This is the one case where the international and China versions differ enough that the usual English guides are simply wrong — they describe a Billing page that a canva.cn subscriber does not have in the same form.
7. What happens after you cancel
Two things surprise people here, in opposite directions.
You do not lose access immediately. Cancelling stops future payments; you keep paid features until the end of the billing period you have already been charged for. If you cancel three weeks into a yearly plan, you have the rest of the year of Pro features. That is also why cancelling is not the same as getting money back — see our Canva refund policy breakdown for what is and is not refundable.
You do not lose your work. Canva states that your designs and your Brand Kit are kept, and remain usable if you upgrade again. Your account stays active on the free plan, and Affinity stays accessible for free with your Canva account.
| After cancelling | What happens |
|---|---|
| Paid features | Available until the end of the paid period, then removed |
| Your designs | Kept and accessible on the free plan |
| Brand Kit | Kept — usable again if you re-upgrade |
| Your account | Stays active, drops to free |
| Team members (Teams/Business) | Lose paid features at the end of the period; the workspace moves to free |
8. Three traps that keep charging you
Trap 1 — uninstalling the app. Canva says it in bold: uninstalling the app does not cancel your plan. Deleting your Canva account does not cancel it either. The subscription lives with the store or with Canva's billing system, not with the icon on your phone.
Trap 2 — cancelling Canva Teams is permanent. Canva states that cancelling Canva Teams means you will not be able to resubscribe to Teams. If there is any chance you will want a team plan again, their own recommendation is to switch to Canva Business rather than cancel Teams. This is the one cancellation on the page with a consequence you cannot undo.
Trap 3 — your card issuer keeps the subscription alive. Canva's help page notes that some banks keep recurring subscriptions active even after the physical card is cancelled or expired, using automatic card-update services. So "I cancelled my card" is not a cancellation, and a new card can be quietly enrolled in the old recurring charge.
9. Cancelled by mistake? You can undo it
While the subscription is still active, go to the Billing page and select Stay on Canva Pro, Stay on Canva Teams or Stay on Canva Business. That reverses a cancellation request you have already made.
It only works before the paid period ends. After that, you are on the free plan and re-upgrading is a new purchase — which is exactly when it is worth reading whether Pro is actually worth it for your work before you pay again.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I cancel Canva Pro?
- Profile menu → Settings → Billing → Cancel plan → Continue cancellation → pick a reason → Continue cancellation → Cancel subscription. You get a confirmation email. If you paid through Google Play or the App Store, cancel there instead — Canva cannot do it for you.
- Can I pause Canva Pro instead of cancelling?
- Yes, for up to three months, with no charges during the pause. It resumes automatically and Canva emails you before it restarts.
- Does uninstalling the Canva app cancel my subscription?
- No. Canva states this explicitly. If you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play, cancel through that store's subscription settings. Deleting your account does not cancel it either.
- Do I get a refund when I cancel?
- Cancelling stops future payments; it does not return the fee already paid. You keep access until the period ends. Refunds are a separate request — see our refund policy breakdown.
- Why was I charged a day before my free trial ended?
- Canva's billing runs on UTC, so depending on your time zone the charge can appear a day early. Canva's FAQ says nothing needs to be done. Cancel at least a day before the renewal date to be safe.
- Can I undo a cancellation?
- Yes, while the subscription is still active: go to Billing and select Stay on Canva Pro / Teams / Business.
- If I cancel Canva Teams, can I subscribe again later?
- No. Canva states that cancelling Teams is permanent and you cannot resubscribe. Their recommendation if you might return is to switch to Canva Business instead.

What we could not test: we have never paid for a Canva subscription, so we have not walked these screens ourselves — every step above is transcribed from Canva's own help articles on 2 November 2026 rather than reconstructed from memory or copied from another blog. We have not tested what the Billing page looks like for a Teams owner versus a member, we have not tested the pause flow end to end, and we have not tested a WeChat or Alipay cancellation. Buttons get renamed; if yours says something slightly different, follow the shape of the path rather than the exact label, and trust the confirmation email over any guide.
